Arabella was lost at the first touch of his lips. It took me 1 month to finish this book. Advanced Search Find a Library. Hawkins’ strength is characters, and this is a tale that will give you that twinge of angst right behind your breastbone because these two characters obviously love each other so much and have no idea how to make things right.

I am just not impressed by anything in this story and cannot find anything or anyone that I felt oh man I liked that in this book. As the heir to a dukedom, Lucien was a little bit of a rakehell, spoiled, and well aware of his worth. Within a day a wonderful fellow reader not only provided me with the title of the book, she also posted a link to the product page.

I love how the guilt and regret of what he’d done in the past eats away at him, proving for an interesting romance. While serious, this book definitely had its funny moments.

There aren’t a lot of seduction scenes because Bella is stubborn and walks away from Lucien any time she even sniffs a bit of smelly sexy vride which means that she is almost constantly walking away. But it’s obvious he cares for Arabella more than he realizes in the beginning.

OK she is now shouldering all the family responsibilities plus a handicapped brother. It is easy to see early on that he loves Arabella, though lord knows she can’t. The last man Arabella Hadley ever wishes to see again is Lucien Deveraux, the handsome, dissolute Duke of Wexford — who broke her innocent heart years ago and disappeared to London.

The beginning where Arabella discovers that the belahed person on the road is her love from years ago who broke her heart is an “oh crap, I have to help him” moment just starts this great story. Furthermore, no crude language is use. But must say, I loved that view spoiler [her father was the one who convinced him that both would be unhappy hide spoiler ]. Arabella is left to care for not only her brother, but her two aunts with no money and no prospects.

Overall this was an enjoyable book and I’ll read the I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the first book in this series. It was a romantic and amusing read at the same time, and I have to read the rest of the series now! Like Arabella, Lucien had faced monetary difficulties in his recent past.
