Her prose is pure magic, lyrical, and it sweeps you away whether to heaven ecstasy or hell tragedy. He seems to belong to a completely different story. The Judge could not believe in the possibility of this; he wanted to shock Jester to the gravity of the situation.

Small Southern town, ‘s, short story of 4 men: Not much of a review, really, which in this case is only appropriate. And although it seems that McCullers is pro-integration, she leaves alive, by the end of the book, her villain: The challenges of living with chronic illness such as diabetes and the complications of a stroke and coping with a fatal disease leukemia are thoughtfully presented.

Not my favorite Mc Cullers but worthwhile reading that takes on a lot of tough subjects, especially for that period, racial injustice, sexuality, and last and not least mortality Board again, and that turned out to be the perfect complement to this beautiful novel. At first, I thought the book was just about a pharmacist, Malone, dying of leukemia. The Judge is a racist old windbag, a glutton and a vulgar sentimentalist.
