It is now late November and the HP website still states that a driver for this scanner which sccanjet work on SL will be available in late October Still this as dpecifications and better all round than the last Epson scanner I had I sold my Epson for this so I wont have to scan half a negative twice then stitch them together again. And yes, the focus is just downright bad. I have owned the scanner for about 6 months now and really can’t find anything about it that I don’t like – it’s great, couldn’t be any happier! I could not get it to scan transparencies using the standard Linux driver SANE and had to dig out an old Windows XP netbook and install the HP scanner software, which is a little clunky but not terrible for occasional use. Cannot handle highlights so it just blows it, cannot handle shadow detail so it blankets it in blackness.
I specificatlons can’t believe how well the slides came out. Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Good option for 4×5 film I wanted something that could scan 4×5 color negatives and transparencies decently, not museum quality but good enough to make a respectable 16×20 print. The software defaults after every restart, loosing all your custom settings.
The included software makes it easy to scan important documents and even create editable text from scanned documents and magazines. This scanner has a great ability to scan 16 slides at a time, all good results.
